Sunrises and Baby Talk

January 2, 2003 – 12:53 pm

I’ve seen a couple of truly amazing sunrises the last two times I’ve ridden the train in to work. It’s been cloudy the last few mornings and I happen to be on the train at just the right moment to catch these truly awe-inspiring scenes of the sun just starting to peek over the top of a bank of clouds. The early morning sun in Winter seems so much more clear and majestic than any other time of year; like a molten ball of boiling gold burning its way through the heavens. Tuesday’s sunrise was particularly beautiful because the cloud bank was outlined in bright white light and there were three very distinct, wide rays of light reflecting back toward the sky. I wished I had a camera with me so I could get off the train at the next stop and follow the tracks back to that perfect moment and capture it for everyone to see. I’m excited to come in to work tomorrow just so I can see the sunrise again.

In unrelated news, I’ve noticed my ‘Rs’ are missing when I talk to Liam. “Hi there” has become “Hi dewe,” and “little baby boy” is of course “wittle baby boy.” It’s really kind of sad. I hope the poor kid doesn’t grow up with a speech impediment because of me. I tried the other day to talk to him using correct pronunciation and grammar; he looked at me like I was some kind of idiot. When I switched back to “Hi dewe!” his face lit up and he smiled his “just for daddy” smile. I guess the ‘Rs’ will be staying tucked safely away for a while yet.

That’s all for today. Happy New Yeawe everyone!
