Teething or Possessed by Satan?

December 17, 2002 – 4:45 pm

Liam is getting teeth. Such a short and simple sentence for such an awful, screaming experience. I’m not sure whether to give him a teething ring or call a priest. He wakes up in the middle of the night and his poor little gums are sore and he’s bound and determined to let everyone else in the house know it. And a couple times I think he even tried to reach the people two doors down. It’s hard to function in the day to day world when you don’t get more than 2 or 3 hours uninterrupted sleep. Scientists have told us that we only need 6 – 8 hours of sleep per day. The thing they don’t tell you is that those hours should be uninterrupted for us to get the full benefit. If you sleep two hours at a time with an hour break between each time, even if you sleep for a total of eight hours, it’s not the same as sleeping those eight hours uninterrupted. If that doesn’t make sense, blame it on the sleep deprivation. Did you know that sleep deprivation was a common method of torture used by the Vietnamese during the Vietnam Conflict? I believe it’s even banned by the Geneva Conventions. My son could very well be a war criminal. It’ll be difficult for him in prison, but at least I’ll be able to get a little shut-eye.
