Catching Up

November 25, 2002 – 1:08 pm

Wow. You don’t write for a few days and suddenly it’s a big chore to get caught up. Let’s see… where to begin… ahhhh, the beginning!

Liam has been better about sleeping through the night. The last two or three nights he’s slept almost eight hours. Thank you son!

He has suddenly become very unhappy in the bath. His very first bath he honestly didn’t care for very much, but since then as soon as his clothes start coming off he turns into Mr. Smiley. He would have a blast in the bath, smiling and kicking his feet, just having a time. Until this past Friday night. My mom was watching him while Jen and I were at a play and she gave him a bath while we were gone. She said he just screamed the entire time. as if he was scared of something. She felt bad, but we knew it wasn’t her fault; could have been he was just unhappy with an unfamiliar person looking at him while he was in the buff. But then Jen went to give him a bath last night (Sunday) and he didn’t enjoy it one bit. He didn’t seem scared, just very unhappy to be in the bath. It’s kind of heartbreaking (not to mention ear busting) when he looks at you with eyes that say, “You can see I’m upset and yet you aren’t picking me up!” Jen was very strong though, she made him finish his bath, talking to him soothingly and washing him as usual, reminding him that he was going to have to take baths. He didn’t listen, just went right on wailing, but she made him stay in there until he was done. I stayed in there as long as I could, but it was too loud and I had to run for cover. (I think I must have a damaged eardrum in my right ear because loud noises start to distort and then I feel a throbbing and it hurts like the dickens, whatever that means.)

He noticed himself in the mirror the other day. Well, Jen stood next to the full length mirror and introduced him to himself. It was so funny. He would see the baby in the mirror, smile, then turn away like he was embarrassed, then when Jen would turn him back to the mirror he would do the same thing. It was cute.

He likes being up in the air now, whereas he didn’t used to. I lie on my back and hold him around his middle and lift up up until my arms are straight. The first couple times I did that he just got kind of a confused and frightened look that told me I should stop. Recently, though, he’s been loving it, he laughs and smiles and keeps his legs straight and stiff. The only downside is that I have to beware of stuff falling from his mouth toward my face. I guess he thinks he’s a bomber.

He has (had) his four-month appointment this morning. He was supposed to get more shots. I’m not sure how it went because his mom hasn’t called me yet, even though the appointment was over hours ago…
